the solitariness of God...

solitary. adj., n. 1. without companions 2. avoiding the society of others 3. by itself etc..

On the advice of a dear friend, I have begun to read and study through A.W. Pink's book the Attributes of God. In life, we cannot make sense out of anything unless we first filter it through the lens of God's character. No event, experience, or knowledge will have the proper perspective or emphasis in our life if we neglect to lay against the correct view of God's attributes.

"The foundation of all true knowledge of God must be a clear mental apprehension of His perfections as revealed in Holy Scripture. An unknown God can neither be trusted, served, nor worshipped." A.W. Pink

So God is solitary...by Himself (Exodus 15:11, 18:11). He is self-sufficient...He did not need us, a creation, to form this world. God is the same yesterday, today, and forever.(Psalm 102:25-27) We can only know the fringes of His ways (Job 26:14) This God can only be known through the Holy Spirit (I Cor. 2:13-14)

I, as a creation, have no rights or claims to make on God. I add nothing to the essence of God and neither does any other part of creation. I'm not running the show. No man is running the show. God knows all and ordains all. God stands alone in His excellency.

II Samuel 7:22 For this reason You are great, O Lord God; for there is none like You, and there is no God besides You, according to all that we have heard with our ears.

meltdown chocolates...

Last week I hit a point where a meltdown was coming. One of those personal, I-don't-know-what-God-is-doing-here moments. It had been coming for awhile. The problem was that there was no way I could let myself crash that day, or the next one, or the next one after that. So, I decided that I would schedule this breakdown. (quit laughing now) With tears in my eyes, I told some friends last Friday that I was planning a meltdown for Monday. Being dear sisters in Christ, one of these friends brought me some Dove chocolates for my meltdown. Each one of these rich treats has a quote on the inside of the wrapper. Sarah and I have passed these chocolate quotes back and forth before, so we have been saving our favorites...

Sarah's... "Shopping makes everything better!"

Rachel's..."A pessimist is really an optimist with experience."

Lest you think we only look to chocolate wrappers for our encouragement...

So I learned that chocolate wrappers are not always prophetic, God's Word is ALWAYS true, and one cannot schedule meltdowns.
