knowledge n. the body of truths or facts accumulated in the course of time
This definition of knowledge is true for us, but what about God? God is not bounded by the term time and His knowledge is omniscient. I cannot truly understand this but there are some truths from scripture that give me glimpses into the depth of God's knowledge and give me security and rest.
"God is omniscient. He knows everything: everything possible, everything actual; all events and all creatures, of the past, the present, and the future." A.W. Pink
There is no one who has more understanding about me personally than God...
Psalm 139: 1-6 O Lord, You have searched me and known me. You know when I sit down and when I rise up; You understand my thought from afar. You scrutinize my path and my lying down, and are intimately acquainted with all my ways. Even before there is a word on my tongue, behold, O Lord, you know it all. You have enclosed me behind and before, and lain your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is too high, I cannot attain to it.
Every joy, hurt, emotion, thought, desire, are known and have been known before the world even existed.
My God never tires of knowing...
Isaiah 40:28 Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth does not become weary or tired. His understanding is inscrutable.
God never has or never will become weary of this knowing. No days off, no vacations, no 'sanity breaks' as my sister called them. This ability to know all is unfathomable to me so I take it as faith and rest here.
God is in control of the future...
Proverbs 19:21 Many plans are in a man's heart, but the counsel of the Lord will stand.
If I claim by faith the knowledge of God then how can I be uncertain about the future? God knows me, knows what I have been through, and where I am going. I can take my faith on step further and boldly face the future in the security of God's knowledge.
These are fine words, and saying them is easy, but what if my tomorrow is nothing like today? What is God takes away someone I love or rearranges my life to His liking? What if... Anything can happen, but I think the key here is that God is aware of those 'anythings' and always has been. When the 'anythings' of life come can I then remain faithful and rest in the knowledge of God. As a child of the King that is my duty is it not? To remain faithful and thereby draw glory to Him.
Again, it is easy to say, but I think it will take a lifetime to understand it.
