roast chicken mini-monsters...

Quite a change from the fluffy chicks on the previous post. At 11 weeks we butchered a few of our Cornish Cross...

The largest we bagged were 6lb 14oz and 6lb 7oz. (It's always shocking to me to see chicken this big. Our twins were each 2 lbs smaller than these birds. As Kaylee would say, 'That's freepy'!)The chickens were very tasty though! We seem to have good years for meat birds and not so good years. Last year we tried Leghorns and were not impressed. They made fantastic fryers and grillers, but NOT good roasters. The pan they are in is my turkey roaster that holds a 25lb bird.

Another wonderful addition to dinner tonight was a sourdough bread that Brian made from an ale yeast. He's had a sponge perking away on the counter for 3 days. Very tasty! We've tried sourdough bread before but never got the good tang we like. This ale yeast seemed to be a perfect fit. We're keeping the starter going to see how it improves with another week or so.
I do so love it when he cooks!
